How fillings and baby tooth crowns preserve your child’s smile

We want to ensure that your child's dental health is maintained in the long term! Caries bacteria in the baby teeth are not only an immediate danger for the affected baby tooth, but can also have an impact on the permanent teeth if the caries is left untreated.

Why are baby teeth particularly susceptible to tooth decay?
The relatively low resistance of milk teeth promotes tooth decay. Their enamel is much thinner than that of permanent teeth, which means that tooth decay can spread more quickly.

In order to prevent possible permanent damage caused by caries, it is important to treat them as quickly as possible while the baby teeth are still in the dentition. Otherwise, there is a risk of pain and various complications such as fistulas or abscesses, fever and a poor general condition of the child, as well as early tooth loss and thus impaired tooth change.

We therefore focus on prophylaxis from the first tooth and timely, effective treatment in the event of acute caries to ensure your child's lifelong dental health.

Which filling materials we use in the heyzahn pediatric dental practice
When it comes to fillings, we recommend a high-quality, tooth-colored plastic filling. This type of filling is resistant to chewing pressure and grinding, and can also be polished to create a smooth surface, making it easy to clean. Statutory health insurance companies cover this type of filling in the molar area until your child is 15 years old, but additional costs may be incurred for the complex multi-layer technique or color adjustments.

At the heyzahn children's dental practice in Obermenzing, Munich, you as a parent decide together with your pediatric dentist Dr. Anna Wechsler which filling material is most suitable - depending on your child's age and other individual needs.

When we use milk tooth crowns
If the front or molars of the milk teeth are severely damaged and can no longer be treated with normal fillings, it may be necessary to insert milk tooth crowns. Good to know: Milk tooth crowns are different from crowns for adults: At heyzahn they are prefabricated and we insert them in the same session!

Milk tooth crowns are available in white or silver. Statutory health insurance companies usually cover the costs of a silver milk tooth crown, which is made of medical stainless steel. White milk tooth crowns, on the other hand, are a private additional service and are not covered by statutory health insurance companies.
