Removable braces - One step towards your dream smile

Removable braces are, as the name suggests, removable and are used in the mixed dentition phase to create space, stretch the jaw or regulate the bite. They require a certain amount of discipline, as they must be worn consistently to be effective. The braces should be worn for around 14 hours a day. The removable braces are made individually for each patient in our in-house dental laboratory in Obermenzing according to the patient's wishes.

Removable braces consist of a special plastic base that fits tightly to the teeth and jaw. To attach them, we use individually bent retaining elements made of stainless steel wire. Using orthodontic screws, we are able to manually enlarge or reduce the size of the brace.

During your visits, we regularly adjust both the correction elements and the screws to achieve the desired result. For lasting results, the braces must be worn continuously for around 14 hours a day, but especially at night. In the evening, just before falling asleep, most growth hormone is released, thus ensuring that the braces have a greater effect.

Which types of removable braces are possible?

Loose braces:
As the name suggests, loose braces are removable and are used during the mixed dentition phase to create space, stretch the jaw or regulate the bite. Removable braces require a certain amount of discipline, as they must be worn consistently to be effective. The braces should be worn for around 14 hours a day. Functional orthodontic appliances:
Functional orthodontic appliances use the body's own growth, the strength of the soft tissue and the muscles to achieve a bite change and create a harmonious balance.

Correct timing is crucial for functional orthodontics because it requires that there is sufficient natural growth that can be supported by the braces.

Active plate:
They consist of a plastic base and wire elements to allow them to be held to the teeth. An active plate has active elements such as springs or screws to enable targeted tooth movements or jaw expansion.

Gap holder:
If a baby tooth is lost early, it is advisable to insert an orthodontic space maintainer. If this is neglected, the neighboring teeth tend to move into the gap, causing space problems for the subsequent permanent tooth to erupt. This can often lead to complex orthodontic treatment, but it doesn't have to be! The space maintainer is similar to a conventional, removable brace and is worn at night.
